Getting started!

Getting our paper on

TODAY is a big day, my first purchase to get our paper products a-rollin.
Much care and consideration will go into the selection of stamps, paper and inks purchased.
Then it is on to creative time. Please check in over the next few days as we should have some fun new post available for your viewing pleasure!

Remember, we would love for you to let us know what you think! Comments, suggestions, and opinions are always welcome!

Productive Weekend

This weekend was spent straightening up and getting into some projects that have been on my list for a long time.  One of these projects was making pillow cases for a friend of mine.  I thought a simple project would get me in the right mindset to being productive.  Oddly enough, I made the pillow cases out of a fabric shower curtain.

My friend has a small studio and wanted to liven the place up - she loved the print and wanted to use it somewhere else in the apartment.  So on a shopping trip we purchased the shower curtain for re-purposing.  I made a table runner and after completing that there was still a bunch of fabric left.  My friend decided she also wanted pillow cases to make the whole place tie together.

The texture of the fabric made it a little tougher to work with.  Getting a straight measure and cut proved to not be as simple a task as I initially thought,  but I managed in the end.  The fabric felt like a light burlap with stretch - very odd!  As you can see in the picture below, it has a lot of texture to it.

I love re-purposing, taking one thing and creating something entirely new and useful out of it.  And as I've never made standard sized pillow cases it was fun to figure out how to do it.  It's very simple, but I am a bit rusty on the sewing machine so it was good practice!

I was really happy with how it turned out and I can't wait to see how fun they look in my friends apartment.

Crafting an Idea

We here at Handmade by Rococo are about just that - crafting.  The satisfaction of creating, crafting and distributing something you made with your own two hands.  Craftsmanship is something I very much admire in any situation.  Whether it is a handmade quilt, a wooden birdhouse or a patio put together by your own hands.  It's amazing to start with raw materials and watch something become something bigger and more interesting than the sum of it's parts.  Our interests are varied but our goal is the same: to have fun crafting handmade goods for others to enjoy.

Creating this blog is a craft all on it's own.  I can't tell you how many times we struggled with the subject of our first post.  An idea is simple enough to think of but much more expansive to put into action.  We are working on our label and our products but stay tuned as we expand into the many different facets of our brand.  Over the next couple days we will be posting pictures of things we have in the works and our blog will be filled with the textiles, pictures, paper goods, and other crafts that we love. Our blog will continue to show progress on projects and inspiring things that we find all around us.

We can't wait to share it all with you!
