Rococo Style

Just for fun, and for those of you not familiar, I wanted to do a post about Rococo and what it means to us.

In short, Rococo is an art movement originating in France in the 18th century and is  distinguished by it’s movement away from symmetry and movement towards use of different materials such as shellwork and foliage. The result was much more ornate, florid and playful art, architecture and design.  It directly followed the Baroque period and it's heavy, dark colors and styles.

We love this idea - in with the old, out with the new.  The idea of a new way of expressing yourself in a colorful and playful way.  This period in history manifested itself in many ways - from art to jewelry to furniture and clothes.

We like to think of Handmade by Rococo as originating with this idea and an added modern twist.  Still playful and colorful but with modern aesthetics in mind.

We're excited to make products that have flourishes of style but also simple aesthetics.  We want all our products to be handmade with care so that you know you are getting a one of a kind item.  It was these principles that brought Handmade by Rococo into existence.  Be on the lookout for more to come, not just in paper goods but other handmade products as well!

It's neat to think that all styles - not matter how old or seemingly antiquated - come back around again.  What do you think?  What is your favorite art style?  What do you wish would come back in style?

If I used your picture and didn't give credit, please send an e-mail and I will add it right away!
